Many times it happens with us that we end up with left-over breads and have nothing to do with them…. isnt it?
Well with this recipe we can make good use of those bread slices and make a YUMMY breakfast… little tangy…little spicy…fast and easy to cook…
I call it Bread Upma as it resembles in appearance to a South-Indian Dish called “Rava Upma”
- 5-6 Bread Slices –coarsely crumbled in a Mixer
- 1 medium onion finely chopped
- ½ medium tomato finely chopped
- 2-3 Green Chillies
- 1-2 tbps cooking oil
- ¼ tps Cumin seeds
- ¼ tps Mustard seeds
- A small pinch of asafoetida
- ¼ tps turmeric powder
- ½ tbps red chilli powder
- ½ tbps sugar
- 1 lemon
- chopped coriander for garnish
Preparation time: 10 mins
Cooking Time: 5-7 mins
Serves : 2
Heat oil in a vessel and add cumin seeds and mustard seeds followed by asafoetida, as soon as seed start crackling add onions and cook for 2 mins or until onions start changing color.
Now add turmeric powder, tomatoes, green chillies , little salt, red chilli powder, mix well and cook for 1-2 mins.
Add the coarsely crumbled bread & sprinkle little water just enough to moist the bread, & add sugar and lemon juice and mix well.
Your BREAD UPMA is ready, serve in a dish and garnish with chopped coriander.. & Serve Hot !!!
Tip: You can also add more vegetables like, capsicum, green peas, carrots, beetroot,potatoes, etc as per your choice and taste to make it more nutritional and colorful..
You may go ahead and try in your kitchen
